Race 2:  Showdown in San Angelo... (06/30/09)  The dragboat races made their second stop of the '09 race season in San Angelo, Texas on June 27-28.  120 boats showed up to compete in the Showdown in San Angelo, including Bad Company and Juan Bad Party (a river racer from the Kinsey Racing camp).  Juan Bad Party is owned by our friend John "the Juan" Hienecke and his wife Pat.  One of the Bad Boyz, Steve Thomas is the driver, in his first race ever!!

Saturday, qualifying round 1, Bad Company paired up against Habitforming driven by Don Bausher.  Marcus drove Bad Company through the finish line in 7.38 seconds at 139.31 mph... Don Bausher crossed the finish line in 7.01 seconds at 159.57 mph.  Round 2, Marcus had a PERFECT reaction time of .000, to claim the reaction time jackpot!! He ended the day in the 4th spot on qualifying ladder.

Steve Thomas, driver of Juan Bad Party, and the rest of the Bad Boyz spent all day Saturday perfecting the dial in they would be using on Sunday.  The River Racer class in a choose-your-own-dial-in class and it consisted of 13 boats.  Every pass Steve made got progressively better, starting out with 17 second pass and ending with a 13 second pass.

Sunday, eliminations began.  Bad Company was paired with the #1 qualifier, Habitforming.  Fresh off his perfect reaction time on Saturday, Marcus cut another excellent light with a .084 reaction time compared to Don's .3 reaction time.  Marcus carried that advantage all the way through the course, until the very end... only losing by a tenth of a second at the finish line.  The clutch on Bad Company slipped and caused Marcus to let out at the end, crossing the line in 7.43 seconds at 138.03 mph.  Bad Company finished the race in 4th place.

Juan Bad Party, with Steve as the driver, took down each of his 12 competitors down one by one 'til there was only one left.  In the River Racer Finals, Steve dialed in a 12.54.  As the lights started to countdown, Steve crossed the start line too soon bringing out the red light.  In his first race ever, Steve drove Juan Bad Party to a SECOND Place finish!!

And They're Off... (06/16/09)  The 2009 racing season finally got under way in Oklahoma City, OK on June 5.  Seven Top Alcohol Flat drag boats entered this event including Bad Company.  The Bad Company Racing Team opted out of test and tune on Friday, but gave the spectators a thrill at a local bar & grill "Brewsky's", who hosted a show-n-shine (complete with a band in the parking lot).

On Saturday, Mother Nature had other ideas during the qualifying rounds.  The wind hampered the Top Alcohol Flat's efforts to get in the usual two rounds of qualifying, for safety reasons the officials only allowed the flats one chance at the qualifying ladder.  Marcus drove Bad Company like it was shot out of a cannon on his one and only qualifying run.  He stopped the clocks in 7.24 seconds to take the 4th qualifying spot.  Number one qualifier, Don Bausher, driver of Habitforming II, put a leg on the SDBA ET and MPH records with his run of 6.60 seconds at 171.75 mph!

Sunday the wind slowed the show again, delaying round one of the TAF boats.  When the wind died down, Bad Company was paired with veteran driver, Don Ermshar in Mako Force.  In a close race, Mako Force took the win with a 7.07 second @ 150 mph pass, while Bad Company stopped the clocks in 7.14 seconds @ 140 mph.  All in all the Bad Company Team counts this race as one of their most successful.

In other notable news, there is a new TAF driver on the  block as Randy Ball earned his Top Alcohol Flat license. Also, Jerry Davis, driver of War Party, who is battling pancreatic cancer, is looking good and hanging in there.  Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.
